Nicholas Carpenter I think a big issue is proof. Stories are one thing, but our justice system requires that the crime be proven. If a woman says that she was raped, she is morally obligated to officially report the crime. If she doesn’t, she’s doing society an injustice by allowing her rapist the freedom to victimize another woman. If a woman claims a man raped her and doesn’t report the matter to the police immediately, I think she should be subject to civil suits, because a false accusation of rape can ruin a man’s life, even if he is never tried in court. One problem I can see with the system’s approach to rape cases is the leniency on the offender. If one is proven guilty, there are only two punishments I find acceptable for rape: death or castration.
